Temperate puffer

I'm setting up a 40g temperate. I was wondering if there are any smaller species of puffs suitable for a tank this size. Fugu and bullseye puffers come to mind, but I can't think of a small enough species.

Temperate is on the cooler side, the Canthigaster genus are all tropical, as far as I know, at least the ones readily available for sale.

All the puffers that I know which could live in a 40 are tropical.

Perhaps some captive bred short snouted seahorses instead?
I know they aren't much like puffers, but they are magical.

Thanks guys! Perhaps there may be another tetraodontiforme alternative? I'm thinking of maybe an Ornate Cowfish?

Seven, seahorses probably wouldn't bode well in my tank set up because I fear they might be to fragile. But, it's definitely something to think about.

Cowfish are cute, but 40 gallons may be tight quarters. I feel since they are so sensitive to stress, they may be at least as, if not more fragile than a captive bred seahorse. I think most, if not all of your smaller Tetraodontiformes will be tropical, but I could be wrong. You could be ok st 72°, but you're probably running it cooler.

I think the subtropical (maybe we need to discuss what temperature you mean by temperate) S. parvus might work, but am guessing just from theory: http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Species ... ame=parvus

It's 15 cm max. (similar to T. nigroviridis), but likely less active.

No, not on general stock lists. But it possibly can be ordered from some of the small catchers at the gulf/florida. I've seen such with subtropical eels, which were caught on demand... or you make a trip to the area yourself... (after clarifying the legal stuff of course...)

http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Species ... ame=parvus - That puffer caught my interest. But it is subtropical and probably wouldn't enjoy the temperature of the tank - 62 degrees Fahrenheit.
