Eating the Decor?

Post by ILoveLola »

I added some more decorations to my aquarium, including some fake plants. Lola has been savagely attacking them and biting the leaves, flowers, and stem since I put them in about two hours ago. So far as I can tell, she hasn't eaten anything, but I'm kind of worried that she will. She's never done this to any of her other plants before, so I'm wondering if that's normal and she's just really interested, or if I should remove the new plants? Thanks :)

Id give it a few and see if she stops or not. If she doesnt stop shortly Id remove em just to keep her from stressin. Id guess she doesnt like your attempt at decorating her home

Lol! Those must be tasty.
I would take them out if it were me, I'd be afraid of her swallowing something.

She's so rude & ungrateful! I~ think they're quite nice...

She seems to have stopped now, but I will continue to watch her closely.
She just swam up to one and eyed it suspiciously before swimming away. Maybe she's done trying to eat them *crosses fingers*

If she's not, try real plants. They might be bitter tasting and discourage her from eating them.

Or try some dried seaweed in a clip. Quite a few puffers do eat plants or more often, certain algae. They are rarely a major component of the diet (except for some reef puffs - part of why they like to nibble some corals). If the fish takes the seaweed, keep it in their diet. They will be healthier for it.

In the wild, their food (snails) crawled on plants. To them, plants = food.

RTR, I have tried feeding her seaweed but she won't eat it. I'll try again now that she's showing interest in the plants.

PP, that's what I thought, but she hasn't done it to any of the other plants before, or after I took them out. Maybe the new ones look familiar to her. Do you think I should leave them out, or will she be okay if I put them back?
