New to Puffers!

Hey guys and gals, I am new to puffers and would like some advice from some experts!

I am a cichlid kinda person but love puffers, had them as a kid!

I am setting up a 29G puffer tank hopefully.

The only things I know 100% of what I am doing are that I am getting Figure 8's (how many), using sand substrate (if that's OK to do with puffers), and going to have a lot of Java Fern in the tank. I will be making the tank brackish slowly.

What other aspects am I missing with these guys?

Aragonite sand is a great choice, that will help maintain your water hardness. I suggest 1 figure 8, they are more personable when kept as a singleton. You can also keep water sprite in their 1.003 - 1.005 SG, there may be a few other plants. You can set up up a small snail breeding tank.

7 is right about them being more personable as singletons but you can comfortably keep 2 in a 29g. Up to you.

I have 2 F8s in a 29 gallon myself. But as they're growing, I'm starting to think that just one might be more comfortable in there, perhaps with some bumblebee gobies.

Crypts of all varieties do well in lower sg. they are nice looking leafy plants good for harboring snails
