Need Help With Aquarium Hood

Post by beautifullybrooke »

I recently bought a new 55 gal aquarium with stand, two aquatech 30-60 gallon filters, aerator, heater, gravel and vacuum used for 75 dollars. The only thing not included was a hood. This tank was built so that two hoods are in place. I'm having trouble finding two hoods/one big hood. Can you guys help?

the two sections are each 23 inches long and 11.5 inches wide. The whole thing is 46in by 11.5in. This is the measurements for the aquarium hood space, not the whole aquarium. The filters are roughly 14 inches long.

Please excuse how dirty some of the parts look, I cleaned it up as good as I can, and I plan on replacing the filters with a newer model as soon as I have the money.
Here are some photos:

The whole aquarium with stand.

So any ideas?

What I did with my 75 galllon, was buy 2 Lights of America Shop lights From Wal-mart (You would only need one) and picked up a 2 pack of GE Daylight T8 bulbs. Then to make sure the fish don't jump out, bought a light diffuser grid panel/plastic egg crate, cut it to fit, made little doors with cable ties. It's all relatively affordable. I have two lights because I have them over a planted tank. The two latter products can be purchased from Lowes.

Also, the filters are very loud and I was wondering if it would be ok to have them off at night or if that would be bad for my gsp.

You definitely don't want them off at any time, except water changes. Those penguin filters are really loud, you can replace them over time with Aquaclears, they are really quiet.

Only change one filter at a time.

And for a hood I got glass tops for my 55 from petsupermarket fairly cheap.

I like them better then I do those big black tops.
