I actually have some breeding in Huey's tank, which shocks the hell out of me

You'll have to excuse the hokey packaging, I used my old Blackberry phone box. :/

I don't mind hokey packaging, i'm sure the snails don't either. When i was cleaning out the breeder tank i have last night i found a stowaway snail which skinny puff gobbled down.
I'm going to treat him again for IPs, when soaking snails in the meds how long should i leave them in for? Do the snails die or shrivel up with the meds?

Yes they dissolve a so it has to be a quick dip. I think Salmon used a syringe to squirt the medicine on the snail and then immediately drop in the tank.

Re: Help. Snails needed urgently.
Thanks. Okay so these snails will get a medicine dip and then fed to Vettel. I hope he gets better soon and gets nice and fat like his brother.
^^ WOW, 65g? that's huge! mines only 3 G, maybe that's where i'm going wrong i must need more space for them. maybe i'll upgrade to a 5 g or something.
I'll keep you posted about my snail breeding success/failure in the future.

What happened with the Aquabid sale? Couldn't you get in on that? Also, do you have a Petsmart or Petco near you? I always find hundreds of snails in their tanks.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Re: Help. Snails needed urgently.
I must have missed the post about the aquabid sale, i was checking back on my phone and must have skipped past it, i just looked back for the link and it looks good and i could still get that too, i'll try and set up an account with them on my lunch break.
I checked with both pet smart and pet supplies plus (no petco near me) and petsmart had none, at least they said they had none and psp wouldn't give me any, they're reserved apparently for someone else.
I have some coming from sevenyearnight and i'm picking a few up tonight from JRC3 to tide me over for a few days. (The people on this forum are completely awesome

I wouldn't bother calling into those shops, just show up & ask whoever is working in the fish dept.

I did just show up, the fish person in petsmart was actually pretty snarky. the one in psp was okay but ultimately unhelpful.

Re: Help. Snails needed urgently.
you dont NEED more room for a snail tank.... just my gf loves snails so i have a big snail tank. she loves the babies. needless to say i feed the puffers when she isnt around
but i have some fish in there too, just none that would harm the snails. more of a snail friendly community. give it a try!

Re: Help. Snails needed urgently.
btw there are 3 different kinds of snails in my tank. ramshorns, trumpets, and what i believe to be pond snails.... the ramshorns are dominating my tank and i have to take a bunch out every week for my puffers, and i assume the trumpets are doing well but they are under the sand so much that you barely ever see. When i move my hand around through the sand i can ding a whole bunch up. whats the best snail for puffers??? a good variety??

Re: Help. Snails needed urgently.
Ramshorns and pond snails are great, trumpet snails are too hard.
I too have a few fish in my snail tank, it's 35 gallons and planted, but the snails bred in a 5 gallon too, I just didn't want to keep the 5 gallon up anymore.

Re: Help. Snails needed urgently.
I have my ramshorns in an empty, undecorated 10 gallon hex. It's off in a corner of the spare bedroom and doesn't get included when I show people my tanks. Snails only, no fish.
Yo ho, yo ho, a puffer's life for me.

Re: Help. Snails needed urgently.
I didn't plan on having fish in my snail tank, but they had to come out of the dragon's lair.
