IP Treatment Not Working?

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

I soak em at the same time... I crush up fresh garlic (turns the water milky yellow. i usually strain it with a net and then let the pieces continue to soak through the net, today i removed them altogether), drop in frozen worms, add a piece of tablet, let soak for 40 minutes. strain, feed.

This sounds great, she is eating something medicated and still getting a balanced diet.ILoveLola wrote:how rediculous. and frightening.xrayjeeper83 wrote:The guy I got him from told me fahakas were supposed to be skinny
I try to feed her a balanced diet, she just won't take anything medicated except bloodwormsi made her a mix from a scallop & a shrimp that i got at the grocery story, stuck it in my food processor. she LOVES it, but won't eat it medicated. so ive been feeding her a little bit of that (enough to get her belly from sunken to flatish), and then give her treated bloodworms so she has a nice round bulge. and i give her a snail every day, but i don't medicate those because i hear they disintegrate..

Re: IP Treatment Not Working?
Haha, Chuck, she won't eat the ghost shrimp I put in her tank for her. One of them is pretty big, so that doesn't surprise me but the others are tiny. She'll chase them, but I don't think she tries very hard, I think she just likes aggrivating them. I did skewer one on a toothpick (bleagh!) and gave it to her, she loved it once it was dead. Weird.
& also, Seven, I giggle like a maniac every time i see your signature.

Re: IP Treatment Not Working?
Just an idea. Feed ghost shrimp medicated food, skewer then feed to your puffer. Also add medication to shrimp holding area? Would that work?
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

That would be an issue if you wanted to keep the crabs and shrimp as pets, but nom nom nom is also not crab or shrimp safe lol
And glad it makes you happy
That was the point, to have my signature make smiles.

Re: IP Treatment Not Working?
So that's a good plan then lol. Also killing a few feeder shrimp to help your puff is more than acceptable. I would say good as they will be fed anyway. Also if the meds does kill you won't have to skewer live shrimp which is ideal is it not

Haha, yeah. I'll have to give it a try! But if the tablets are fizzy tablets, how do I get the shrimp to eat em? Or are you saying I ought to a food in the meds & then feed that food to the shrimp?
