Blenny ate corals

Post by Troender »

I thought the lawnmower blenny was supposed to be reef safe? Well, I bought two new coral frags last Wednesday, and my lawnmower blenny has eaten them! I didn't think a blenny would do that? Do I have a mean blenny or is it the thing you dip new corals into that made it taste delicious? Or maybe the coral itself tastet very different from the others? He hasn't touched any of the other corals, but the new frags he has been all over and eaten off absolutely anything alive. :grrr:

My post was actually a kind of question though. I am not sure what to do. If I wasn't so in love with my blenny, I would have sold him. But he is such a funny fish, and I have to stop by his tank to watch him all the time. But I do want new corals too. He hasn't touched any of the other corals, only this two new frags. What I did with these, that I haven't done with my other corals, is that I dipped them before putting them in my tank. I know it sounds strange, but can the dip thing have made the corals taste good? Because the blenny hasn't only nipped at them, he has eaten off absolutely anything alive on them, so only the white skeleton is left. I don't want this to happen to any other new coral I want to buy.

What is the dip made out of? Just a silly question, but does it have garlic in it?

No. It would be very stupid if it had. But it does have oil of fir and lemon in it. But still, wouldn't it be strange if they make something to dip corals into that makes fishes want to eat them? :confuzzeled:

It would be ridiculous! Lol
You could experiment, and dip a pea in that stuff, leave one natural, see if he goes after the dipped pea first.

Maybe that coral just tastes delicious.

To be more spesific, the dip is called ReVive coral cleaner, from Two Little Fishies. Does anyone else have some experience with this one?

I suddenly realize that this is a fish that isn't neccessarily peaceful. I've got a mean one! Yesterday he beat up my biggest tomato clown. The clown didn't even try to get back on him. But I still love him to bits. He has so much personality! :smitten: And I do like fish with a bit of temperament.
