Awesome! The tank looks great. Hope he grows fast, would be super neat to see! =]

Yeah lol, there's always that risk... I had the same problem with my roommates, except I didn't eat them.

Re: Setting up 80gal GSP tank
Thanks guys! I am so excited that he's so happy!!! I just got home and fed him, nice full belly and wasn't hesitant to eat at all! The butterfly(douglas) and the Puff are tolerating eachother. Puffy wasn't all that stoked last night, kinda darting at the butterfly then turning away. Now they are just fine, swimming next to eachother from time to time with no problems. We will see in time when Puffy grows if he has a problem with douglas, but for right now I think Doug being bigger than him is keeping him alive.

Re: Setting up 80gal GSP tank
Keep a close eye on the parameters--adding that much LR at one time can be a risk. You should be topping that system off with RODI water nightly, to keep the SG more stable. If you're not keeping corals, SG of 1.020 is fine.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Re: Setting up 80gal GSP tank
Thanks for all the help guys..
I woke up this morning and couldn't find my Puffy. I didn't think anything of it cause I assumed he was exploring the new tank and just hangin out somewhere I couldn't see him. Went to school and came back 3 hours later and I still couldn't find him. So I took all 100LBS of LR out and he was nowhere to be found. So next I checked around the tank to see if he jumped out, and nothing. Lastly I checked the flow of my powerheads and low and behold, he was stuck face first in the suction part of the powerhead. I turned the powerhead off and he fell out, and to my surprise was still alive! But not in any livable condition, he was still swimming when I got him out of the powerhead, and finally settling to the ground, motionless.
I am basically crying while typing this, it had to be the saddest thing I have ever seen, and I'm so upset. Sorry to paint such a horrible picture, but I figure that you guys on here care more about my Puff than anyone else besides my GF.
I'm not going to get another GSP from wal-mart, or from anywhere for that matter. I don't want to replace him at all, but keeping a puffer happy makes me happy. With my 80gal what could I house sufficiently? I wanna get a dogface, or a porcupine but I think they need 120gal min. God damn it I'm so sad.
R.I.P- you will be missed

Re: Setting up 80gal GSP tank
It's a hard-leaned lesson and I'm sorry for your loss. I didn't realize you had purchased from walmart, but would encourage anyone thinking of any fish to avoid them, as it gives them more of a reason to sell the fish that they keep in such deplorable conditions.
I'm assuming you want to keep the tank as SW. You were right that neither of the puffers you listed would be okay in that small of a tank. Maybe for a short time, but you would need to upgrade. The tank really is amazing for a GSP, but that depends whether you want to stick to not getting another one or not.

That would work too. They're available at Petco right now for $15.xrayjeeper83 wrote:OMG Im so sorry to hear that. That is just horrible.

Re: Setting up 80gal GSP tank
Oh no! puffpaddy I'm so sorry!!!
I know this doesn't help at all after the fact, and it's probably something you already though of, but put a pre screen and/or pre filter sock or sponge on all of your power heads.
This is so very sad, I'm so sorry this happened.
I also think a toby puffer would be a good choice for the tank.

Re: Setting up 80gal GSP tank
Thanks for the kind words and knowledge everyone. I know I'm probably being hard headed, but I don't want to replace Puffy, I don't have the heart to and don't think it is fair. I, at least right now, can't get another GSP. I have already found another tank, it's a 125 gallon, stand, lights, everything except filtration for 200$ http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/for/2589172539.html. Would this be sufficiant? I read some things saying that the 120 gal requirement is insufficient, and more space is required. I want to do the best I can for the puffer I get.
And seven, that was the first thing I thought of after it happened... Hard lesson learned, I just wish Puffy didn't have to learn it too
