I was talking about the Jungle meds, but if he gave you that it will probably work. However the reason people suggest soaking is because puffers don't take the water in exactly. It needs to be in their food to treat the problem basically.goldielocke76 wrote:Prazipro or the jungle clear? How much of the tabs do I use to soak the food in? I hope he eats it. Dangit, I don't have any garlic on hand.

If you get a nice juicy earthworm (small in this case) and soak it, I have never had a puffer turn it down, even after soaking it for several hours without garlic. Heck, sometimes they the stuff is stuck all over in their slime coat. I generally drop 1 tab into a 2" x 4" tupperware with a bit of water, and drop a bunch of crushed snails and live earthworms.
It's a crayfish! It's a snail! It's a... ah who cares?

The amount doesn't have to be an exact measurement, I was just breaking a small piece off and using a small amount of tank water to use as the marinade base.

Re: 10 gallon singleton DP
So I stuck a half tab in a plastic bag (every tab does ten gallon, I only needed 5 gals worth) let that fizz up, then took a dropper full out of the bag, put it in a little misc cup we had lying around, and now the bloodworms are soaking. How long do they have to soak?
LoL I will look into getting an earthworm for him. He eats like a little piggy, so I am hoping that putting some of the fizz in the tank, and soaking some of the bws in the stuff, that he won't notice a change in taste. He really loves the snails. Only problem is, I have two adult snails left, and a bunch of egg gels. I didn't want to get rid of the adults until I can get more. Hopefully eggs will be hatching soon.

Re: 10 gallon singleton DP
For bloodworms I would say that 15-30 minutes is sufficient, assuming they were frozen. Live worms take a little longer. I would try and feed him the soaked food a few times a day.
It is really a waste to stick it in the tank. It needs to be in their food or they will never ingest it. Besides, not putting enough of the antibiotic in a tank leads to immunity to that antibiotic by various pathogens if they are present.

I was told it treated ich too?? I was really hoping to kill two birds with one stone. But if not, /sigh I will add more of that ungodly stinky stuff called Ich Attack to the tank LOL. Also, should I use a full tab for only 5 gallons of water? I didn't want to over treat, being scaleless and all. Bws were frozen, I will start feeding him a couple times a day. It's really hard not to feed him when he begs, haha. How do you all stand it? I am just way afraid to overfeed

Don't worry about Ich Attack if you don't like it. Increase the SG and the heat and you should be good to go. I've never really had it stink, so you may be adding too much. It's 5ml per 10 gallons.

First off, don't worry about the instructions on the box, that's for immersion and you need to get the medicine inside the puffer, not in the water column.

The garlic is to get them to eat it, if that medicine tastes anything like it smells, it would straight up be like eating a wal rus infused alka seltzer. They may not eat it if you soak it long.

As for begging, I enjoy it.
I feed my puffers small amounts a few times a day so that I can enjoy it more, but the fast day is difficult, I'll admit.

I have been doing 10 drops per gallon since PZ is still in my now 5 gallon quarantine tank. 50 drops = 2.4mls about, really 2.5 and I have a 1ml dropper I have been using to put it in the tank. Maybe my nose is just too sensitive. I just know that opening the top to drop a snail or two in there stinks xD Between the Bifuran+ which didn't get rid of it, but I believe it may have kept the ich at bay, and the Ich Attack, there are no more spots. I was just advised to treat 2 weeks after all spots are gone (by Bertie I think). That's the only reason why I put a half tab in the water as well as soaking food in it. He's just pacing the side of the tank that faces me, waiting for me to feed him because he saw me get the bws out hahaha. I enjoy the begging too, it's super cute, I just feel bad when I don't have his food out >< makes me feel bad with his big ol' eyes and his wiggly little body

Re: 10 gallon singleton DP
Those medications don't really cure ich.
Remember that fish store employees have very little training, and 98% of it is incorrect .
Please follow these instructions

be mindful of the temp and water aeration. It is safe to use in conjuction with Ich Attack, but considering the small tank, I'd go with one or the other, I wouldn't want to compromise the oxygen supply.

Re: 10 gallon singleton DP
Keep up on your daily water changes too, it concerns me that you put 3 different types of medication in the water, 2 of which are not made for ich, and it's only a small tank as is. You don't want to od your little dude.
Stick with the treatment, don't miss doses, and continue for 2 weeks past last spot seen.
Yes, ich attack is stinky, but it's worked safely for every time I've used it. Fish showed no signs of distress during treatment, no one died, all good to go. But this is only because I was unable to use the salt treatment.

I have two aerators in his tank with out the stones on them. I was hoping that the water movement would be sufficient due to the higher temp and the meds. I did do a 75% WC so most of the meds are not in the tank anymore. Also, carbon is back in the filter. First time I have seen normal looking water in the tank for almost a week. I understand about the employees as well, I had someone at Petsmart tell me today that DPs were BW. The guy at Petco though actually owned a tank of DPs. I was hoping that his advice was more sound than anything else I have heard from the other emps.
What a little booger! He ate two of the soaked bws then gave me the "look." Looks like I am going to need to get garlic anyways. He finally started to un-clamp his tail. I haven't seen is splayed since I got him. Hopefully he is on the road to being healthy. By the time he is healthy, hopefully the new 10 gallon will be ready =D
