When eggs were shipped in bulk (a gross per box), there were cardboard dividers between layers plus a cardboard grid separating each egg from the others, that divider between the individuals within a single layer was called the eggcrate. Architects adopted such grids of wood for shading purposes and/or light diffusion. The name was kept when it was translated into plastic for fluorescent lights.

There are advantages to being old enough to have been in the draft. I do remember being on KP in basic training and having to break multiple gross of eggs for breakfast - all from eggcrate cardboard boxes. Some things you just cannot forget. I learned to do one-handed egg cracking with both hands. There is a skill wasted othside of the Army!

I don't know... I walked into my Rona and asked for "egg crate" and they pointed me to the right direction... if you're in the know, you know.

I went to 2 different places last night and got a baffled look when i said i was looking for egg crate, i had to google a picture on my phone because i couldnt explain it lol. Glad i have a smart phone

I think if you ask for the light diffuser panels, and say you're looking for the one that is the white, plastic grid, they may know it by that, since I don't know when the last time that stuff was ever sold for something having to do with eggs.

Another question

If i am buying LR from an established tank and i want to put it in this new tank how should i go about doing it and will i need to cycle it?

Should i get some water from the tank the rocks are coming from? or can i introduce it to a new tank, new substrate, new water?

Idk what the best process is for setting a tank up with established live rock ....please help

Put that liverock, if you buy it, in your tank, but don't introduce the fish right away. There is always a little bit of die off even with small transport times, so it's best to wait a while to make sure you don't have an ammonia bloom. Normally you would quarantine it, but this is basically quarantine since your fish aren't in your tank. You can use water from your old tank, and especially with saltwater that's a great option because of the cost involved. This will of course also help acclimate your fish.

No, you don't need to. It's up to you, you can do all liverock, or you can do part liverock part dry rock, and let the live rock seed the dry rock. But this takes a while, and it can be cheaper, but the liverock in that add is the price of most dry rock. I say go for it.

that is what i though, but i didnt know if there was some secret reason i would want to put dry rock in. Mainly i would want it for better architecture pieces so it looks cool but i think i am just going to make do with the LR

getting the goodies tonight, roommate just texted me and the skimme and test kit are at my house waiting! Will post pictures when i get home.

Also getting the LR tonight, the person selling it is going out of town for a few weeks tomorrow afternoon, so i had to be impatient and tell them i wanted it tonight lol.
