I will always be an advocate for species tanks when dealing with the vast majority of puffers. Anyway, my father owned a reef store and always kept these in their own tank. He had an experience early on with one getting stressed and all tank mates dying. I wouldn't risk it.

So........I shouldn't get a masked to go with my dog in a 140g lol? Puffers seem to be more aggressive with age is that even if they grow up together from "baby's" dosent seem to make sence that a creature would be anti social 100% at an adult age that gets triggered in their adolescents.

The other thing is that as the article stated they are predators in the wild so they establish hunting grounds to compete for food......aquariums aren't the ocean if you take out the reason for aggression (hunting for food) and feed both ur puffers equally there should be no reason for aggression.

You cannot remove their hunting instincts. surlaW tons of generations of an ingrained behavior doesn't just disappear.

People who have a lot of (some over 20 years, with fish that old) experience have come to these recommendations. Just because it doesn't seem to make sense, doesn't effectively counter that they have real, actual long term experience that demonstrated time and time again that it does happen. It's not like some random bits of advice were just fabricated, the suggestions are based on actual experiences. We cannot transpose human psychology on to puffers.

But, as I've said, it's your choice how you house your animals. You don't have to take anyone's advice, but do know that the advice given on this site is backed by facts and actual experience, and given to help the recipient create the best possible environment for their puffers.

Polscotdp first off your tank isn't large enough to house two puffers of that size into adulthood. Second it is never recommended to house puffers together, it certainly may work in a large enought tank. It is not like it never been tried and I'm sure in some cases successfuly but those cases are few and far between. Most of us here don't want to take that chance. Do you?

I love my fish..and I will do whatever has to happen if things get.tense between them..im a sushi chef and deep.down while I murder fish daily I enjoy seeing some happy....I guess im not right in the head....but my fish have a better life than me...there is more food in the fridge for them than myself.

Understandable....since.posting this.and getting massiv negitive feed back on my tank. I have rehomed mr.cow. and doggie.to.different tanks..leaving only reticulated. Stars. Tobey eel and porky in the 240....don't want.everyone to think that im such a terrible person.
