Feeder guppys?

If you seen the other post i just got a arrowhead suvatti and it wouldn't eat bloodworms or daphnia so i got abuot 7 guppys from my friend and went out that night. When i woke up the suvatti had eaten 6 of them and two shrimp, i know this is anough for at least a few days. My friends tank is getting crowded at the rate his guppys are breeding, so i was thinking of getting a 10 gallon and breeding some guppys on flake for the suvatti. I have seen people saying that fish arnt good for him but he enjoys them.

Would ghost shrimp and guppys fed on flake be a ok food sorce for the suvattii ? Mabie some snails if he will eat them? They would be diease free and cheap food if i breed them myself. What does anybody with a arrowhead think ?

Ghost shrimp and guppies are a fine food source for a piscivore puffer, I would feed them something more than flake food, because "You are what you eat" applies strongly here. Make sure you gut load them with nutritious food, because the food in their tummies will be in your puffer's tummy. Guppies have been found to contain very little or no thiaminase (B1 inhibitor), so they are a much better choice over goldfish.

In time, your puffer should adjust to eating dead food, but someone with experience in training them to do so should advise you soon.

It's hard to train these kind of puffers to accept dead food, yes there are more nutritious foods, but they need to be trained first unless they will starve. That's how several members here have had to do it. I don't advocate keeping it on that diet forever, but these are lurker predator piscivores, it's their natural diet.

I have some earthworms coming so i will try them and keep trying with the bloodworms and mabie some muscles first before any more guppys. It won't even look at the bloodoworms even if there touching him. Mabie a big earthworm will be more better looking. Guppys are cheap and easy to breed my friend is having a real problem with them (he has new ones every other day been born) so thats why i asked about that. I don't have no problems at all feeding fish to a puffer that should be eating fish, after all we eat millions a day and they all die or suffocation, This puffer eats a full fish in about 1 second.

Sounds good, good luck. Yeah, commercial fish food is made out of shrimp and fish (Not exclusively, and fortified with vitamins) anyway,
I have a feeling the earthworm will go over really well!

I keep a small tank that I breed guppies in. I had to set it up when I got my first Congo because she would not eat dead food. I in no way was going to see her starve to death. I did however have to end up starving her for a week to get her on dead food. I just didn't want to do that to her when I first got her because being in a new environment was stressful enough. It took her about 1 1/2 to accept dead food. My new Congo will not touch dead food. She is about to go to a larger tank so about a week after the move I'm gonna try starvation with her to get her on dead food. I'm ready to rehome the guppy's and tear that tank down! Most recently I have gotten a Turgidus. I was afraid I would have issues with him but he accepted mussel meat on the first try. He couldn't resist it. All in all don't feel bad about the feeders. As long as you are trying to train to dead food do what you have to do to take care of your fish and get him fed. It's not mean in any way. They eat other fish in nature. We as humans will eat almost any meat available to us...it's natural. May sound stupid but I'll bet worms have feelings too...lol!

Yeah i will try the same, i will use the guppys as a back up if nothing else is working but some earthworms should be coming today so i can try them out. This puffer is different then other fish ive owned, all the others would happly eat live bloodworm and daphina all day and be happy. We will see how it goes.
