I saw your videos! They are great! But Gilbert is my only puffer and he is by far my favorite fish! Fahakas are very personable!! But I did just turn the light on in the tank and saw him all dark and hunting so I think I am going to get some more ghost shrimp for him since he seems to love those! and I get them cheap! I am going to get the 2.5 going and seeing if I cant breed but I am going to find some crayfish to feed him. I wish I lived out east again so I could catch them outta the streams. freeeee food! lol

True that lol. You just have to be careful with anything caught in the wild as it poses a bigger risk of spreading disease or parasite. That's why I like to breed my own marmokrebs.

Breeding ghosts is near impossible. I was successful once...only 3 survived from the clutch. I really wasn't worth my time or effort. Ted cherry shrimp on the other hand are super easy. They are expensive around here at 5-8 dollars a piece, but well worth it. I bought only four and about 5 months later I now have hundreds. No special care needed...they hatch and are shrimp...no larval state to try to take care of. I've heard you need green water to breed ghosts. I done it without green water however. I think it was more dumb luck than anything.

Well thanks for the tip! lol i am always up for savin some time and effort when it comes this! At least I wont feel like a complete idiot now that I know not to try it lol

I agree completely about breeding cherry shrimp and ghost shrimp. I have been able to breed ghost shrimp, but with similar results to Skroe. Cherries are super super easy under "normal" aquarium conditions, and marmorkrebs about the same. Ghost shrimp aren't really worth breeding anyway, unless you are willing to gut load them, as they are essentially void of any nutritional value.

Yeah they are good to gut load. I saw Gilbert chasing after a few that are in the tank from a few weeks ago! But I have been trying to get him to eat clams and silversides just a little bit ago but he went after it and it moved and got uninterested! But he did bite into a clam the other day! It was cool to watch!

It's really quite impressive the jaw strength thy have. I made that video on my other thread of Ramses eating that 2" trapdoor snail, but before it happened, I was never really expecting that kind of damage from such a little puffer lol. They demand respect as a much more intelligent and powerful fish than most people are used to.

Agreed. I have grown to have a huge love for them and they are amazing fish! For real!

You'll see ghost shrimp berried all the time, but nothing ever really comes of it. The first few times my RCS berried she dropped her eggs. As soon as she becomes comfortable and has viable eggs she will carry them "full term" if you will. After that there is no slowing them down. Upon a quick glance in my RCS tank I can see 20+ berried females at any given time...I'm sure there are far more than that. They appreciate a planted tank.

Also, use a sponge filter or keep pantyhose over the intake on your filter to keep the babies from being sucked up...they are TINY.

Im going to be using my GF's tank to breed cherries since all my fw tanks the parents would be eaten quickly

Ahhh I see! Yeah man everything gets demolished in my tank! Except for the community fish! I cant get Gilbert to eat a silverside he took a bit and spit it right out! lmao!

Yeah, cherries in puffer tanks don't go so well. Ramses is only 2", but when I dumped 30 cherry shrimp in there they were all gone in a day lol. 16 of them were gone in 3 minutes.

Dang! What a fatty but then again fahakas are known for their insatiable appetite!
