Re: Dwarf Puffers!
Tetra now has freshwater biospira, but according to an answer I received from them in an email a few years back, "it isn't actually the same bio-spira organisms, it just uses the same patented process." So PP is right.

Re: Dwarf Puffers!
I meant Tetra. Seachem stability is different. Seachem claims the bacteria in solution are "spores" and activate when they are diluted in aquarium water.

Re: Dwarf Puffers!
Actually, Seachem stability is the product I've liked the best whenever I needed a bacteria boost in my tank.

Re: Dwarf Puffers!
Like I said, I can vouch for Seachem Stability. I don't know how it works, but it does work. I've had varied results with other products, and as a general rule prefer to fishless cycle any tank as opposed to using one of these products, but it stability has helped me in a few mini cycle pinches, or if the biofilter suffered due to medications. You could take a look at online reviews for each product you are looking at too.

Re: Dwarf Puffers!
Cycling products are a complete waste of money if you are starting with an empty tank IMO, There is no reason you cant wait another 10 days to let it cycle properly (especially for puffers)
Fishless cycling is the way to go. If you read the article in the library you will see it should only take 10 days or so. It doesnt matter how big the tank is. You will simply need to add more seeding material and ammonia to feed it. Even if you cant find any seed material do a fishless cycle
library/water-filtration/fishless-cycling/
Please read that article again and be sure you understand the nitrogen cycle a tank needs to go through to become "cycled" there is also an article in the library about the nitrogen cycle i believe.
If you are going to put the dwarf puffers in the tank the fahaka is in now they will not need anything to cycle that tank. (not sure which tank you are cycling?) however if you are going to leave the tank empty (no fish) for more than a few days you will need to get a source of ammonia for the beneficial bacteria to feed on to stay alive otherwise the beneficial bacteria will die and you will get an uncycled tank.

Re: Dwarf Puffers!
You're right, I wasn't suggesting it be added it to an empty tank. Actually, we've mentioned fishless cycling several times now. Nothing can replace fishless cycling, but as I stated before, those products are nice for the occasional bacteria colony boost if needed.

hey i had 2 dwarf puffers in a ten gallon and they are a blast to keep. i had a few danios in with them and all was well. everyone got along. i think because the DPs couldnt catch the speedy danios! look into it they make a great combo, and the pearl danios are really nice looking. like tiny little speckle trout!

Thank you! I am hoping to get some soon once I find a tank big enough for my fahaka!
