Need an honest opinion

Post by Salmon »

I'm thinking about getting rid of my F8 and bringing my 20 Long back to freshwater and putting my DPs in there along with the Panda garras. I recently added the panda garras to my 10 gal DP tank and they seem to be getting along. I just think I like the DPs more and my F8 is driving me crazy, I've had him since June and I still don't think he is used to me, which upsets me because he was one of the most active ones when I purchased him. He seems to swim up and down the side of the tank no matter how well decorated the tank is. It drives me nuts, to the point where it kinda pisses me off so I just think maybe he would be better off without me. My DPs come to the front of the tank when I'm in the room and act like they like me at least. I don't know I just want an opinion on what I should do.

To me it sounds like it would be best to rehome him. If you dont like him you wont take as good of care of him.

Im almost in the same boat with my Fahaka. He is not like other Fahaka's all he does is lay around ALL DAY, doesnt great me or anything like that

Yeah, Its not that I don't like him, I just don't like how he acts, I treat him very well, I care for all my fish, but he just drives me nuts. He must have been tortured or something at the LFS. Anywho, If anyone would want him I guess just send me a PM, I can take pictures if he ever stood still lol.

aww poor fella, some puffers think they are lap dogs ;)

If I were you I'd do both. Upgrade the tank / rehome the F8 with another F8 or compatible fish and then turn the old tank into a DP tank.
if you follow me, you avoid stepping in the crap that I just did...

Not a bad idea J-P, but I would most likely get killed if I buy a bigger tank right now, I'll have to wait until I move out.

I'm sorry you feel this way :(. I have 2 F8's. One is active and one hides ALL THE TIME. If i were to ever rehome any of my puffs it would be them....I hate to admit that, but I'm scared that no one will care for them like I do. Do what you have to do, but make sure he finds a great home that understands all his needs.

But IME stereotyped swimming is principally a current issue. I would play with the current a bit and see how it affects the fish. Fish absolutely need exercise and get strange (and fat) without it.

Yeah I think my current filter is only like 160 gph I may add a powerhead and see if that works. I'm probably going to buy some rock for his tank and swap out my giant piece of driftwood see if maybe he likes that better. Idk. In the near future I'm buying a bigger tank for my DPs especially since they have another half inch to grow

Hmmm. I'm going to first try to change the current direction and see if that has any effect on how he behaves. I think I'm going to keep him and just mess around with decorations and current and such from week to week see if that has an effect on his current behavior. I think if he took a chance to explore his habitat a little more he would be fine
