GSPs, hermit crabs

Post by john1983 »

Hi guys.
Just registered as im due to buy 2 GSPs.
Ive bought a 330ltr corner aquarium with all the extra's.
This is my setup.
330ltr corner tank
aqua 1 ext filter. "not sure of model but equiverlant to fluval 305.
Nitrate/ALK reactor
11W UV filter.
Im just looking to keep these guys on there own but i know they are very messy. Im going to gradualy increase salt levels to the point where its marine and im wondering whats the best type of hermit crab to keep for cleaning up what the puffers leave.
Done loads of research on care and maintenance but would like some crabs that are safe from GSPs jaws and dont attack my new fish just to help around the tank.
Also ive heard that keeping "cuttle fish is it"? in with the tank as they like to bite it??? Is that the white thing that birds have in thier cages?

Thanks for the time guys appreciate it :)

John

Not really. Most shells that hermit crabs use are to hard for GSP.
Contructive but not really the answer im looking for.

Regardless of how hard the shell is I'm still pretty positive the GSP will find a way to eat it or at least part of it.
Those who say money can't buy happiness don't know where to find puffers.

ya your puffer will find away, they are plenty smart enough to flip it over or just swim by and grab a leg/arm/eye what ever

I can't speak for the hermit crabs, but I think the cuttlefish bone is a great idea. I've kept them in with my puffers and they like to nibble at them. It's a great source of calcium, but more importantly helps them keep their teeth trimmed. Hope that helps a bit.
It's a crayfish! It's a snail! It's a... ah who cares?
Nom nom nom!...

Tank: 4 liter custom-shaped sphere
Contents: 1 Brainfish
Ph: 7.4
Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates: ?
Problem: Cloudy/muddy water
Can you help me?
