Since I wouldn't be using corals with the puffer why is it important to cure the rock? Wouldn't the greater number of species in uncured rock be better for a puffer that would want to eat them? Maybe I'm missing something.

A koralia evolution 550 or equivalent could be enough, you position it so it will sweep over/around your live rock.
A larger/higher gallons per hour circulation pump may be too strong of a current to be comfortable for their bumblebee style swimming.

Curing is the process of allowing time for die off to occur and then stabilize, this die off is inevitable during transport, that process releases a lot of ammonia. It would likely kill the fish. You also want to give it time in a fish free environment for quarantine, liverock can host unwelcome guests. They won't survive without a fish host for extended periods.

if you dont cure the LR, The decaying biomass will cause a large amonia spike and you will kill everything in your tank.

Not exactly, but there is a point of ridiculous. They do need exercise, but also need to be able to rest. You don't want the pump blasting them to one end of the tank.

Oh I see. Ha ha, wouldn't want that. xD But when you get it nothing has died off right? You are trying to kill off certain species, right? What I mean is, why do you have to kill them off if you aren't going to be in contact with corals that they kill? Or is what you're saying that these species will die off no matter what you do and that's why you have to cure the rock? Sorry, I'm just trying to understand the reasoning, I'm not trying to be difficult or know-it-allish, just asking questions. ^^

Does this look good? It's on liveaquaria and even though it says it's precured I'm supposed to cure it again, right? Why is that?

Id check with a LFS before ordering stuff online. Shipping will make that stupid expensive

My lfs doesn't carry saltwater type stuff. We had one that did before but they went out of business. There is one place that I know of I can check but I kinda can't stand the owner xD Why does it matter whether I have it shipped or buy locally? Just because of the die off during shipping?

I will definitely be curing. Wouldn't want my puffer to die after spending so much time and money accumulating stuff for him LOL

Personally i would look into getting a lighter weight, more porous live rock. The more water that flows into the nooks and crannies of live rock the more capable it is to fliter your tank. More surface area per LB compared to a giant slab of dense live rock like fiji. This is why I like bali live rock and others like it.

You may think that it is cheaper to get LR from your LFS but ive Cured my own before and the diversity in my self cured live rock really is much higher.

You mean you've added critters to the rock or seeded from other live rock? Is all fiji rock the way you described or just the one I linked?

Something I just thought of: Do I need to buy uv lights to keep the little inverts on the live rock alive? Or are they just for coral and plants?

My 1st LR was from Liveaquaria & it took many more weeks to cure it. Get dry Marco rock & seed it with a few pieces of live rock.
