sorry not a fan ....

I painted my tanks black when I wanted a background. Not saying that you should follow, but I think you can DIY something better yourself.
if you follow me, you avoid stepping in the crap that I just did...

thanks :)
i'm considering several options, including paint (though the tank is inhabited, therefore, paint is a logistical issue)
are you "not a fan" because you tried it and it didn't work satisfactorily?
i'm not really seeking opinions of the background so much as of the overall quality and effectiveness of the system

I can warn you that working with filmbacking and liquid or gel attachment techniques is best done with the tank flat on its face also. But I have not tried the product advertized at that site.

Er, I just Scotch-taped one like that on the back of my planted tank. Works fine for me. If I ever get my background plants exactly the way I want them, I'll probably tape on black construction paper instead.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."
