Another Quick Question

Post by Puff8 »

My puffer is doing much better with daily water changes but Ive noticed when he's had his dinner he lies down for a while, he moves about if I go near and seems quite protective of his food (tonight he had a mussel) is it normal for puffers to lie down after food?

I only ask because although he seems way better in himself I am obviously still doing water changes to sort out the nitrate levels and wanted to check this is just to do with him having a full tummy, he was swimming around exploring happily before food and his breathing is normal so Im guessing he's just full?

Thanks guys and sorry for the bombardment of questions!

mine seem to. They seem to eat first consider digestion later lol. Scoff and crash seems to be the puffer way from my experience
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Yup, I also agree. But resting after eating is natural in the wild, where pig out and then digest is a survival trait. Any food still present when the puffer stops eating should be removed if you do not want an overweight and less healthy puffer. Plus it does result in higher waste level in the tank.
