a little worried about my GSP

Post by volcomkrew4life »

So for the past 2 days my GSP has been just sitting around curled up in a ball. He used to do this every now and then but when I would come up to the glass and he noticed me he would immediately unwrap himself and start swimming around lively. Now, he notices me and just stays there. Even after I put the net near him he still didn't budge. He bobbed onto his bubbler and it even picked him up but he remained in his ball. Eventually he finally came out of it and came up to the glass where I fed him and he ate just like any other day. I watched him a little longer and he even started swimming around with his tail curled in a U. This really worried me. Water parameters are fine. Ammonia-0 Nitrites-0 Nitrates-<20 should I be worried? What could this be? Oh and by the way I probably should mention that I cleaned his filter about a week ago. It was getting all gunked up with junk so I took the media out that takes care of the biological process and just washed the rest of the filter in old tank water from a water change. A LOT of bacteria looking junk came out of it and off it. Did I possibly destroy bacteria? I mean like was the bacteria in the bio media not enough?

He's about 2 inches long in a 20 gallon tank (I understand they need around 40 minimum for their entire life but he's still tiny and when he gets bigger I'll upgrade)

Hmm. I really don't know. Tests seem fine, anything airborne that could have gotten in the tank, like air freshener? I don't know why he would be acting like that.

I don't know, swimming around crooked concerns me, if he were bored, I'd assume he'd be pacing.
I'd double check the nitrites, but other than that, I don't know.

I agree with Sevenyearnight on this. My GSP was staying curled up a few days ago so i moved him back to his quarantine tank and he acted perfectly normal again, upon more thorough tests i found my water parameters to be way out of whack. Now they are back in the normal range and i will be putting my gsp back into his tank tonight
