Goldfish tank help?

I have 5 goldfish in a forty five gallon tank *Overstocked, yes* 3 comets, 2 fantails. Large weekly water changes. However, I realize that comets need much more room than what they have now. I do have an outside pond but it's quite small and don't think it will fit 3 more comets, also, not sure if my family would be willing to put these fish in with the other larger fish outside. A new tank is not an option for the 3 comets, but a water trough or some sort of tub might be. I want the best for these guys and would love to see them grow into monsters, so any advice from tub/trough size to filtration system would be helpful. Thank you!

Please note that it is an average width of a 55 and is four feet long but is quite short in terms of height. Thank you

That's not exactly a possibility right now, otherwise I'd be all for it.. Not sure why it isn't, but it doesn't seem to be. Are there any cheap 100 gallon water troughs I could use? Even temporarily? Thanks

Well get a bigger tank for them or just take em back to the LFS til your ready to rehouse em

I know many people who buy a 125 - 150 gallon "Stock Tank" use to feed/water horses/cattle. Then they add a PondMaster 1500 to it for filtration. Their fish live happily in a flower bed setting or just out in the yard. I will warn you though that if it is in full sunlight that you may end up with nothing put Pea Soup colored water so you need to regulate sun/shade properly. That should get you by for awhile until you can redig a new pond.

Stock tanks/troughs are fine -- just watch for overheating (avoid direct sun during hot parts of the day).
