I know puffers are messy, and ive always just cleaned what ive had to, but i was wondering if there is any im doing wrong that is letting my tank collect so much waste in the gravel

Perhaps overfeeding? What are your water-change and feeding schedules?

My GSPs make almost no mess, I hang in a piece of shrimp/squid/fish and they rip off what they want from my hand.
My Exodon is well...another story.

Exodons aren't puffers, they're an aggressive tetra.

Another interesting fact!
The genus Exodon is closely aligned in this ecology with the freshwater puffer Colomesus asellus.

Exodons are gorgeous, school well, hyperactive, need large tanks, and if it moves they will taste it.
I agree that F-8s are messy. But they are still one of favorite fish.

oh lol, that would explain why ive never heard of that puffer! lol
are they the kind that has really big teeth? theres a tetra at my LFS labeled as a "saber tooth tetra" , its priced at 45$, and the guys there say it grows to 3-4 ft.
