yea.. can't do that anymore. It is possible that it is a frag that has survived for a while. Or a frag of a frag...

I asked my wife (who is Japanese) to get me some live rock from Okinawa Japan via a friend and local dive club. They couldn't because it is all protected now. Nothing is exported anymore

And I've already got bubble algae (or whatever it's called in English).

Any good tricks to get rid of it?

Pick it off with your fingernail, before it spreads. Be sure not to pop it in the tank or the spores will spread. Fun to pop outside the tank, though!

After talking to some Norwegian reef keepers about the Zoanthus sp. "Japan, they tell me that the "Japan"-name isn't anything you can count on. It's just a name the dealers have come up with.
Well, here are two pics of it. The pictures lie on the color.

I look forward to seeing this one when I get proper lighting.

The colours on those will be amazing with some actinic blue lights - I have them & they almost glow fluorescent green!

Nope, not Japanese at all. The 2nd ones are common, Radioactive green zoanthids.

I have ordered a blue light, so I think I will be satisfied. Well, if I am able to keep it alive, that is. It is the first time I set up a SW tank, so it has any chance to go wrong.

PP, the two pics are of the same coral. I said that the pics lied on the colors.

But they look mostly like the second pic. I love them! They are beautiful!

I want a SW tank now!!! Maybe I could just rig something up with my 5g bowfront and a powerhead and a few corals and shrimp... It only has regular lights, though. :/

Blue/actinic lights are for color, white/daylights are for growth.

Bubble algae wasn't so difficult to remove as I had thought. They don't pop easily. But the biggest problem was that they often was taken by the water current when I got them off the rock, and I couldn't always find them. I guess they will start up a nice little colony by themselves somewhere else.

But what do you do with a small bubble algae colony which as found themselves a nice place inside a hole where you can't get reach of them? BTW I have two different kinds of bubble algae now. Nice with some more colors.

Neither could I. But I have spent the last two years looking for a good deal on second hand equipment, and got a good deal on a skimmer too.

I had planned to make a overflow box myself (and have bought what I need), but now I am starting to think that I will buy one anyway. I can get a small one for a pretty good price at eBay. I will feel more safe with one I haven't made myself.
