AC 110 question

Post by xrayjeeper83 »

Ive got a 110 on Bloats tank and lately ive noticed that the filter media basket keeps trying to float up to the top. Ive removed it and made sure the sponge was attached correctly, ive made sure all the air was out of the sponge and done everything i can think of. Anyone else ever had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it? Its floating enough to push some of the ceramic stones out of the water

Yeeeeup. I have an AC110 and also an AC30 that do that. For me, it's a problem with the plastic piece in the filter. If you look at the sides of the baskets, they have 2 tiny slots, one on each side, that help it hook to the body of the filter. In my 2 filters, 1 or both of these little "arms" that fit into the slots are broken off the inside of the filter body. (sorry for my technical terms lol). Without these little pieces to hold down the basket, they want to float.

Suggested fix: - Put a rock under your media. In my case, the lids are tight and are able to keep the baskets down.

As for the ceramic stones floating out... Can you not put them in a mesh filter bag??

They are in a mesh bag, the basket is floating up so much that they come up out of the water lol.

Ya I know the plastic tabs your talking about, i noticed there was only 1 of them and figured the other one might have broken off but wasnt sure. Cant remember if both were there to start with lol

But glad its not just me

Another reason it does this is if it needs cleaning. If the water can't flow through the media, it will push it up to flow under it.
