GPS - straight to Marine/Brackish??

Post by Goonerman1 »

I have a large Marine system but would like to set up a separate tank for a GSP. As most LFS keep their GSP in Freshwater would it be possible to drip acclimatise one of these up to full marine? I ask this because obviously I have the means to set up a marine tank straight away with sand and Live rock from my Marine tank but not the means to start one off straight away at FW or Brackish. Would it be better to drip acclimatise it to Brackish and then over a period of time raise salinity to Marine and then add the live rock. My dilemma is that obviously I cannot add the live sand and rock to a FW/Brackish set up or the bacteria will die off. Probably not explaining myself very well but hope someone understands where I'm coming from??

I did mine on a super slow drip from low end brackish 1.005 to full marine 1.026 in roughly 12 hours. You just don't want it sitting in a bucket without air for that long so using an air stone is definitely necessary. Going from completely fresh to full salt may be a bit different though, one of the actual experts on this site should be on here shortly to give you a more definitive answer.

im no expert but i believe doing a slow drip acclimation over a few hours will be ok. but dont just throw him in there. if you arent sure how to set up an easy drip method just ask :D
