Anyone wanna help me daydream about the ultimate Mbu tank?

If you started with an mbu at 3-4 inches what size could you keep it in, what size tanks would you go through before you end up at a 1000 or more

Sorry, but the name for the fish is Swahili, not English. Literally mbu = rock (and mbuna = rockfish or rock-dwellers) and the pronunciation is roughly "uhmboo" (but unlike routine English similar sounds, it is done with the lips closed, and is more of a hum than the short 'oo' of umlaut). So the correct usage would be as stated, an mbu. "A" mbu would be no more correct than would "a" umlaut.

x0rtrunks' usage is preferred. Perhaps a bit of review of the importation of foreign language terms into English (although in fact into binomial or Linnean nomenclature - which is its own language), even when we don't quite have the native sound in our language?

Pufferswanted: if you wanted to do it right, you would start with the fish in its permanent home. Otherwise you could start with the fish in a 120 or 180 and move it over before it got to a foot TL.

I also had the same idea of the tube going to multiple levels and then branching out on each floor into corridors. That would be something to see.

That's very interesting RTR. I had wondered what the origins of the name were. When I first encountered it I thought it was an acronym for a much longer name. And then I wondered what the heck kind of fish name was Mbu. :p

My freind has actually corrected me on my pronunciation of mbu he knows someting about swahili

Part of the family lived in Kenya for years, the kids grew up there, being multilingual from the get-go (father American, mother French - each speaking their own language, household and father's lab/office/school staff either of those langueages or Swahili, the kids went to French school). One niece is back in Africa after living in Italy and in Thailand, and now has added a couple of Arabic dialects, my nephew is living in Paris. Everybody in the family but me travels all the time -

I did travel a good bit as a kid, but I recovered. I have a high requirement for peace and solitude. That is absolutely incompatable with travel.
