If you properly support the bottom you dont have to worry about that.

+1, a properly built stand (using 2x4) can support a lot of weight. My tank was custom made by my friend's father to raise the tank display 38" from the ground. I only have 120 lbs. of rocks work on this tank (50lbs base, 20lbs live, and 50lbs Pukani rock which takes up 2/3 of the tank) and I am confident that it can take more if I had the room for it. I wish I took a lot more pictures of his other aquarium stand and wood work, but here are some pictures of my friend's current 2,000 gallon tank with over 900lbs of live rock.


The glass magnifies the back wall, but the tank is over 5' front to back..

do you mean if you have a stand where the whole plastic rim around the bottom is supported, then its ok?

Tempered glass is pretty strong, its when you hit it on the edges that its fragile, I think. So supporting it on the frame is way more important then supporting the center.

Yeah I don't have enough LR yet, but the stuff I have plus my coral skeletons goes onto a thick bed of crushed shells and sand... You can use something under the sand too if your worried.
