Baby F8s already not getting along

Post by Pufftastic »

I have two new baby F8s, Hula and Luau, who share a fully cycled 29 gallon tank. The puffs are the same size, about an inch, but one of them (Hula) is totally dominant. He chases Luau away from food, chases Luau away if I'm looking in the tank, and just generally has an "I Rock the Tank" vibe about him. He's done this since day one.

Both puffers had several visible bite marks on their stomachs when I got them, but those have faded away and Luau's ragged tail fin has regrown. I assume the wounds occurred during shipping/travel. The two are not fighting, per se. Hula chases Luau, but doesn't seem to actually bite. I can take a photo of the tank this weekend -- it is crammed full of decor and tall plants, broken sightlines galore.

Three questions:
  • What's the likelihood that these two will ever get along? (I've had them a little over 2 weeks.)

Would it be wiser to just take one back to the LFS now, before there's a real brawl?

If I keep only one F8 in a 29 gallon tank, can I have slightly less decor because I won't need to break up the sightlines so much? (Keeping all the rocks, plants, decor, etc. clean is a bit of a pain. But I would certainly leave plenty of stuff in there for a curious puffer to explore.)
Thanks for any input!

Post a FTS, so we can see if there is enough decor.

I'll be able to post a FTS after the weekend. But it's seriously decorated. LOTS of plastic plants, caves, ornaments, and a gigantic piece of Texas holey rock in the middle of everything. If I had just one F8, could I ease up on the decor a bit?

it would be best to keep all the decor you have, keeps your puffer more to explore

Do you think I should keep only one of my F8s?

WOW, puffykid! That is a seriously decorated tank -- very nice! Mine's full o' stuff, but no, it's not THAT full. That looks like puffer heaven!

Heather, I promise to take some pics this weekend. I'm switching from gravel to aragonite sand tomorrow, so as soon as the anticipated cloudiness subsides, I'll be all over it.
