Mixing Puffers with other fish
Hello everyone, Can anyone give me any advice? I have 2 F8 puffers and would like to put a tank cleaning type fish in with them to clear up any excess shrimps and worms and algae. So far I have had a plec who died within 2 days and some bumble bee gobies (which I am told mix well with puffers) these where eaten!! Is there any fish that you can succesfully mix with puffers? I dont seem to be getting any proper advice from pet shops!

Seeing as your F8's have already eaten the gobies I would say you may be out of luck with tank mates. What size tank do you now have the F8's in? A constant ph is more important than numbers within reason, 7.8 is fine.

I had some success keeping mollies. By some, I mean they eventually got eaten but some of the fry kept escaping puffer appetites & they grew up & had more babies. This lasted a couple of years, before they were all gone. They did a pretty good clean up & algae control until their demise.

Thanks Guys, I think I will cut my losses and buy more puffers!! I feel too cruel puting other fish in there just as dinner!

Like PP, I have had success with mollies. Try some Mexican Black Mollies maybe, they love algae and will forage for any uneaten food.
29 Gallon Marine tank, with refugium, skimmer. Base rock, coral skeletons. Stock: Baby Ocellaurus Clown, young Saddled Toby, 3 Hermit crabs,one 2 inch Bristle Worm, hitch hiking starfish.
10g Biotope. 3 C. Travancoricus (Dwarf Puffer) Some Ghost shrimp, gravel/sand substrate, heavily planted with Swords and Java Moss.
10g LR Culture Tank. 10+ pounds fiji LR / base rock. Assorted hitch hiking inverts
Some FW tanks.
In My Experience, Fishkeeping is like Cooking. Five or ten basics will keep anyone from getting sick. But to be truly magnificent... You have to know the right Recipies.

well, for my case (8 GSPs in 80L tank），these fat boys live well with their tankmates - 4 cichild fish. i guess gsp attack the other smaller fish mostly because their belly are not stuffed enough! so feed them well and see if something's gonna change.

Hi husonli welcome to The Puffer Fourm. Not to get this thread off topic you might want to post a new thread and give us some imformation on your tank set up. Overfeeding is not the anwser to aggression between fish.
