Just imagine a 10" Oscar in a 10g tank & you'll see how absurd that rule is! It only pertains to slender, 1-2" fish.

But of course many stores do sell Oscars for 10-gallon tanks...

Re: Figure 8 going full SW?
Good Grief! It must have been pretty small/stunted. My breders were too big for a 75 - Had to give them a biggish sump (I don't remember the size) and two veggie filters (either 15s or 20Hs) to increase the water volume and control the parameters at all within normal limits.

I'm sure he was looking for a bigger pond when he jumped.

Not really. The LFS is just a temporary stop over before the fish reaches its final home. Keeping fish permanently in LFS conditions is usually wrong

Re: Figure 8 going full SW?
no, bit I didn't know they were saying a 10g is fine. Even when I was a kid (under 12) we had an oscar that I wouldn't even consider housing (not holding) in a 10g.
Obviously I can't say what petco is saying or not... even http://www.thatpetplace.com is saying a 55 is minimum. I realize LFS' info can be wrong .. I didn't know that they were THAT wrong.

The local chains will sell baby Oscars as part of a community for a ten. They would probably sell a Pacu for the same if they had any fry in stock.
