Acclimation plan for F8

I have a freshwater tank atm, and the F8's in the LFS are in FW as well. I plan on bringing him home when my cycling is done and I'm going to begin my transition to BW after hes been in for about a week and continue at .002 SG per week, until its about 1.006. Does that sound reasonable?

Also how long does the water keep its SG? Does it deteriorate naturally over time?

Its a small tank, but I wanted to keep some kind of small tankmate, like a bottom feeder or an algae cleaner, with the F8. Any suggestions for the brackish water?

thats how i did my FW to BW transition and worked out fine

whenever i do water changes i just add the same amout of water i removed with the same SG as the water in the tank and i never have a problem keeping the SG at .005-.006

as for tank mates every1 says gobies but i have a featherfin catfish and hes never bothered by my F8 and it cleans up after my F8 like you wouldnt beleive...it saves me alot of time

Hi adamk129 welcome to The Puffer Forum. I suggest to hold off on purchasing this F8 until your upgrade your 6 gallon to a minium of 15 gallon. This minium 15 gallons is for a single F8 no tank mates. A larger tank will be required if you do want to try tank mates.

In regards to the size of the fish to tank ratio, wouldn't the F8 be a perfect fit? I believe they grow ~3" when fully mature, and I keep seeing this "1 inch of fish per 1 gallon" everywhere I go. Would it be more of a problem of keeping him occupied than actual space issues?

Puffer are messy fish and put out alot of bioload. They also release hormone into the water and stunting can happen easily in that small tank. In most cases the 1"per gallon is total myth. Would you keep a 10" fish in a 10 gallon tank?
