FW to SW
My friend has an established 55 gallon, has it for over 20 years (his dads) he wants to make it SW, so if he puts up the SW 1.002 a week will the bacteria be the same? Or would re-establishing be better?
Noobs, it takes one to know one.

Re: FW to SW
SW bacteria are different to FW bacteria, I think putting the SG up 0.02 a week maybe good enough to cycle the tank slowly with marine bacteria.

Re: FW to SW
Are there fish remaining in there? If not, have him start from scratch, with sand substrate, live rock, protein skimmer & a couple of powerheads.

Re: FW to SW
Well maintained Cichlids can live into their 20s easily.
Also, +1 to PP's comments on restarting the tank as SW.
