I work for a local pet store, and we recently got dwarf puffers(we did actually I.D. them, they are definitely dwarfs). And well, I've been pretty smitten by them and have been doing as much research as I can. I currently have an unused five gallon that I'd love to have set up for one puffer. I'm planning on getting a Fluval Nano filter and a Marineland stealth heater. I'm interested in opinions on the filter.
Does anyone just do fake plants for the puffers? I'd like to do live plants but I don't know what kind I'd put in or what kind of maintenance is required and lighting?
I'd love to see pics of peoples set ups for ideas!

Re: Dwarf Puffers
fake are fine. If it is solo you'll have one smitten tank puppy on your hands
if you follow me, you avoid stepping in the crap that I just did...

No, one of the LFS by me didn't heed the letter they got, it split open and killed almost all the fish on the tank. It was several sizes. Best just to avoid. One I had didn't shut off one day, cooked my tank to 90°

Re: Dwarf Puffers
I use only fake plants in my DP tank (well, in all my tanks, actually -- I'm just not a "plant person"). I prefer more colorful decor, the tackier the better. My new F8s live in a tiki-themed tank, as do my goldfish (in a different tank, of course). The DPs have a pirate-themed tank, complete with a big sunken ship that has tons of holes and hiding spots. A couple of caves are in the tank, too.
This my DP tank in its earliest incarnation, a little over a year ago. It has quite a few more artificial plants now.

Yo ho, yo ho, a puffer's life for me.

Re: Dwarf Puffers
Love the tanks! Thanks guys
I haven't set up my tank yet but I'm going to this weekend. We only have one puffer left at the store. All the others died unfortunately. They were kept in the Fluval Shrimp Tank and the person responsible for tank cleaning was on vacation and I think the puffer tank was overlooked, I have a feeling that's why they passed away. We've been feeding them Mysis Shrimp and snails. Also two of them had a completely white top fin and it looked like a fungal infection. I hope the last one will make it
