New dps
Sorry about the picture quality, taken on my phone. I have a thread in the freshwater section which explains why they are in a barebottom tank right now, the cup is acting like a cave in case they want to hide. They also have fake plants and i just added wisteria to the tank.
I'd like to introduce Button (the fat one in the background of the last photo ) and Vettel (the skinny one in the foreground of the last photo). Vettel is less skinny than s/he was yesterday, s/he's demolished a few pond snails today and Button ate 3 bloodworms. Button is so fat i'm worried s/he might explode.
I think they might be too young to sex properly but boy are they cute. They seem pretty happy.

Re: New dps
It looks like you put them in the 20g. Good call! Just don't forget to add the media from the 5 and watch your ammonia. These dps look just like mine! The one with the more faded looking spots may turn out to be male, I'm hoping mine does too. Best of luck! Oh yeah one other note. You might want to try doing a half gravel half sand substrate. Don't mix it, have areas of each. My 3 dps love it that way. And IMHO 3 bloodworms actually might be risky. I quarter-cut mine with a razor and try to get theirs into the 3 territorries asap so they steal from each other less. Cheers!

Re: New dps
purifire, i'm going to move everything over from the 5 g (substrate, plants, drfitwood) at the weekend. I have a layer of sand covered by a layer of gravel, mostly for the plants benefit. In your tank do you have like 1 part sand and a different part gravel?
i honestly didn't know how many bloodworms i'd sucked up and when i went to get a net to get rid of 2 of them s/he'd already gone at them like a beast! the little dp didn't get any. i'll be more careful next time, i'll probably fast them tomorrow to make sure button doesn't explode and can digest the huge meal. Vettel won't suffer too much.
OMG they're far too cute.

Re: New dps
Hey,
My DP tank has a half sand/gravel combo:
I shape the gravel along the back, giving them some terrain on each end.
Then add sand (I use a soup ladle) into the "lagoon" area in front of the gravel. Looks great this way!

ask: is this suffering necessary or unnecessary?

Re: New dps
That sounds really interesting. Do you have any photos? I'll be adding substrate at the weekend i think because i'm probably going to have to buy more so i'll add it all at once combined with the older stuff.

Re: New dps
I heard that one thing you can do to try and make sure both of them get equal amounts of food is setting up two feeding areas so that they aren't competing for the same food.

Re: New dps
I really might need to do that because it looks like i'm going to have to treat Vettel for IPs. Would i just get a tank divider?

You MUST treat both fish.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

I drop my skinny one in a breeder box and give him 2 bloodworms, every few days.

Re: New dps
That's a good idea, i have a critter keeper i could use. Although skinny Vettel is filling out a little bit and definitely get's his fair share. They both get nice little bellies when they get fed.
