New green spotted puffer

Post by Jaees0406 »

Hi , i just bought a green spotted puffer '' Jerry '' and i putted it in his aquarium that is running since 1 week to treat water and set everything. But the fish jsut stay under the filters, like you can see on the pic, he is just going up and down under the filter, sometimes moving to the other side but rarely.

is the tank cycled? what do you mean by "treat the tank"?...this could be the fish reacting to the ammonia spike. An aquarium needs to by cycled before fish are added. Fish produce waste and there needs to be enough bacteria in the tank to convert the fish waste, to less toxic levels. If you have not cycled the tank, or don't know what cycling is, then i would recommend you take the fish back to the fish store asap, or at least do 50% water changes to get the ammonia down... do you have a liquid test kit? What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels?

If tank is cycled properly there will be no need for additives.

Could be stressed by not enough decor, just from what I've seen that is usually the cause of that behavior.

Do you have marine salt in there? Perhaps you could send some pics of all decor? Also a complete list of the test results of tank may give some useful info. I had problem with my powerhead creating to much current when my GSP was small so a new filter (may) be the solution.

"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

The product "Cycle" is nothing more than dead bacteria in a bottle = more waste, in addition to the fish's waste. Please read all the links give you above. it'll help you understand this fish's needs & what "cycling a tank" actually really means.

You need to get yourself liquid test kits for ammonia, nitrite & nitrate, to see if the water is healthy enough to support a fish. API makes good, inexpensive kits.

That tank also looks pretty small. How big is it?
