Not posted for ages but thought this was the best place to get some opinions / experience on this...
Our Mbu is about 5 years old now and going strong. Last week I came home from work I noticed that he didn't look his normal self. On closer inspection one of his eyes was completely pushed back into his head. He often pushes his face up against the glass and this pushes his eye in a little bit but this was different as the eye was nowhere to be seen! I was naturally concerned but then surprised when a few minutes later the eye popped back out and off he swam, happy as you like.... This week I noticed some else a little out of the ordinary. One of his gills was clamped down (the other working away fine) for about 30 minutes. Then for no apparent reason he just started using it again...odd.
I have not noticed anything of the sort in the past and haven't really come across it on other posts. Has anybody else ever experienced anything similar with their Puffers?

Land animals (including people) commonly breathe through only one side of their nose and swiitch back and forth periodically when at relative ease. I have not observed it in fish myself, but they may do something similar.
