can i put stones from the beach in my puffer's tank?

Post by volcomkrew4life »

I'm at the beach right now and found a pile of really nice rocks and stones and I'm wondering if I can put them in my green spotted puffer's tank if I boil them properly to kill any bacteria.

Also, what about beach sand ? (Just out of curiousity)

I wouldnt boil the rocks personally, heard horror stories of people boiling them and them exploding due to air/water pockets inside the rock.

but you can just soak them in hot water or maybe vinegar or something like that to kill off stuff

So hot water will kill off the bad bacteria? I wouldn't wanna contaminate my tank with anything nasty from the ocean. Could I use like oxiclean to clean them?

Mmm. Last time I took sand from a beach a game warden caught me and threatened to arrest me if I didn't put it back. Apparently, that sand belonged to the state of Indiana. So, me personally, I wouldn't take anything from a beach.

Thanks for the heads up El Scorpio but I'm already home with them so even if it was illegal I didn't get caught hahahahaha I've taken shells and stuff home since I was young though so I doubt it's illegal where I'm from (the jersey shore) idk about sand though, that might be a different story lol
