How many Figure 8 puffers?

Post by Duncan »

Okay so for my birthday my brother got me 4 baby figure 8 Puffers for my 18 gallon tank. Would this be okay, or must I give 2 back to the Pet shop. They aren't showing aggression. Also has anyone had experience keeping soo many? And does anyone have experience with keeping them with bumblebee gobies? Thanks, you guys rock my socks.

okay im definitely a newb when it comes to this walrus so don't entirely trust me but i think 4 is definitely way too many for an 18 gallon tank. i know these guys don't get as big as the green spotted puffers (which i have) but they're still very agressive and even 2 will probably outgrow that 18 gallon tank. you can probably get away with 2 but definitely not 4. sorry man

Here is a helpful link. 15 gallons for the first F8 and 10 gallons for each addtional. Looks like your tank is good for one F8.

Yep, what Trek said. You are only going to be able to keep one of those guys. Also you know those are brackish water not fresh water.

Also is there anything else in the tank?

Okay, I cycled the tank for 3 months using cycling chemicals. I know how to look after these guys, I'm not gonna feed them flake food and add discus to the tank :) I am just concerned about their numbers. Again will bumblebee gobies work if I take 2-3 F8's out?

If you take 3 out you could probably squeeze 2 bbg's in there
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Sarcastic comments when I'm trying to help after you have severely overstocked your tank, shows you DON'T know what you're doing. Especially, after telling you how large a tank a F8 needs & linking you to an article about them.

I would like to know what "cycling chemicals" you used for 3 months? Something doesn't make sense... :?
