DP with snails

Post by My HD PVR »

Well, HOPEFULLY im getting a 3-10 gallon fish tank, for my snail breeding tank. Now heres my question.. Would putting in some DPS (one in the 3, 3 in the 5, or 5 in the 10) tell me if thats a good number as well, would it work for them? Would anything get sick? Would the DPs eat them? If they cant be housed together, i would like to know what CAN be housed with snails, they are probably going to be ramshorns but POSSIBLY pond snails, which comes to my next question. whats the best snail for F8's?

DP's will eat the snails. But your numbers are off in regards to how many DP's in each tank. Dp's need 5g each.

Both though types of snails would be just fine. Rams get bigger but ponds breed faster iirc

IMHO & IME, a snail breeder tank is best kept as a snail breeder tank. That is a high enough bioload all by itself. If you want/need to breed snails, do that. If you want to set a a tetra tank do that. A combination will not at all serve the same purposes.

You don't keep cows and horses in the same field, or pigs and goats. Why do you think that can mix and match a snails production tank with a fish tank? They are very different goals. Do one thing right rather than two things badly.

Don't worry, the snails are entertaining enough to watch on their own! :)
