Decided not to get DPs. Why? Well...
My parents are kinda of getting angry about the large tank requirements of my GSP and the fact he needs 50% water changes, because in about 2 years(or less) I will be gone for 2 years(coming home occasionally). I told my parents that the dwarfs would also need 50% changes and they did not say they wouldn't let me get them, but I feel they will probably be more likely to let me get a larger tank for my GSP if the 10g. only needs 25% changes.

Then you should get a 55g.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Yep, I found some one local who's selling a 55g. with stand for $150. I haven't talked to him yet, but I plan to try to talk him down to $100.Pufferpunk wrote:Then you should get a 55g.
I put a few zebra danios, some black kuhlis and a otto cat in the 10g.

aww!
Me too
I'll be gone next year for college... family doesn't have a problem with a big tank unless its full of fish... as opposed to 1 or 2 GSP's lol....
In fact, telling anyone that 1 gsp needs at least 30 gallons gives me odd looks...

Most tanks with biofiltration by conventional bacterial processes should have 50% partials. That is far from limited to puffers. It is part of the best technique for supporting captive fish in good water conditions.

probably cause they're so small when they're in stores and people dont realize how big theyll get!J-P wrote:why? a fish the size of your fist needs the space...
its like looking the cute little baby arowanas in capitol aquarium(in sacramento) and thinking theyre so cute, but then you go to the big tank and see the 3-4 foot adult one and its like, wow! that tiny thing can grow to over 3 feet big!
Never trust big puffers. The fingers you save may be your own. -RTR

Fish seem to be the commonest "pet" that folks buy without any concept of what the critter needs or what its growth and lifespan will require.
I do not understand buying a pet without learning first what is needed to keep it and at least some idea if its lifespan.
