Skimmer not skimming..?

Post by bigfatfish »

Why might a skimmer not be skimming much gunk off? For the last week or so, I have only collected a tiny amount of waste in the cup. I have adjusted to try & get more, but this just makes it too wet. It looks like it is working properly? Is it possible that 2 small GSPs in a 55UK gallon with sump are just not producing huge amounts of waste?

Probably not much waste in there.

Sounds to me like you just don't have enough waste :) that's a good thing. The sam is happening with my 33gal. All I have are 2 balloon mollies and a zebra hermit. You just don't have enough crap in your tank is all. When you feed your fish, check the skimmer again in 20-30 mins, if it is working properly you should see more gunk suddenly getting collected because of the food you put in the tank, but then it will go back down to normal. Thats a good way to seeif yor skimmer is working properly.
