petco/smart usually has them, but in small bags. i would not reccomend them cause of the paint and dies needed to colour them as they can potentially harbour risks, not to mention cleaning the water after adding it to the sand

I saw the ones they have for reptiles. I wouldn't even consider them.

What brands are good? What should I avoid? I don't want something that will leach into my water.

The only "coloured" sand i would recommend is the black and white cichlid sand. anyhting other than that should ideally be naturally tannish/whiteish coloured. With the natural and the black/white one you'll know for sure you are getting normall sand that will actually benefit your tank and have little clean up if any.

if you are looking for colour you could get a bag of clown puke, but then you will have to dedicate a lot of time to cleaning out your filter. the same applies to coloured sand.

I personally would reco mend the either types of sand i said from above, or red/black gravel designed for plants. youll get a more natural look and saved time/money on cleaning up after it

Now there is a handful of members here that use colored sand for their congo. Like red or orange.

I used 75% black sand mixed with 25% red gravel.

PP, where did you get the red sand that's in the pic of your Congo? I know P-Nut will never be red but I was thinking of trying some other color.
