Micro bubbles coming from my sump return

Post by ramcharger1979 »

Anyone have any ideas why I would be getting micro air bubbles coming from my sump return on a freshwater tank? It was fine until Sunday morning and has now been doing this for about 48 hours. I know it is not hurting anything but it looks terrible.

Cavitating? Have you checked that the intake(s) is/are clear? Many pumps can only be restricted on the output side, Restricting the input frequently leads to cavitation and microbubbles. It can damage the pump.

Thank you. I took it apart again and found a piece of a plant stuck in the intake. It is smooth flowing again.

Great! Cavitation is hard on pumps - it can really shorten their working life.
