new puffer, need help with him

Oh no! Sick fish?! Come here and see if someone can help!

Read this before posting!!

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.

2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.

3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)

4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.

We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.

While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.

Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

The best way to post pics on this forum is via bbcode but you have to first UPLOAD your pics to either imageshack or photobucket.com as these will give you an url to a given pic youve uploaded.
So for e.g. this pic here I have uploaded on my Photobucket : Image
has the URL: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s196 ... 1303870422, once you have an URL (internet address) for your pic you then have too place image tags on either side of it before the image will be posted.

The image tags are these here: Image***********[/img] now you can either type these yourself or press the Img button above. Once you have img tags posted you then copy and paste your Pic URL into the middle of the tags like so:

vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

Image*******http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s196 ... 2*******[b][/img][/b] >>>>>>>> but WITHOUT the ******** and hey presto >>>>>>>> Image

you have now posted a pic   :D

thanks mate, yeah he seems to be doing great. i think i was just worrying abit at first you all know what it's like, i think i was more nervous cause he was my first puffer. i'll post some pics up another day of him, got to sort it out first, to be fair it seems alot of hassel just to post a pic. i've been on other forums and on them you can just upload your pics straight from your user area on your computer to the site if we could do that on here then that would of been great and alot easier.

you cant upload on here like in UR mate some forums dont have that facility, so you have to do old skool ways with img tags.

Correction you have to do what I said above if you want to post pics in a thread, but you can upload your photos onto TPF and keep an online Photo Album, go here to set one up: ug.php?g2_controller=useralbum.UserAlbu ... d8c6765ef3 . That way you can either share links to pics or post pics via there URL's by using the [img]***[/img] tags I was telling you about. HTH ;)

Actually, that's not true. we see lots of pics of puffers & then tell them to enter that pic in the POTM contest.

Hey great pic! Did you name your puffer? haha I guess we assume everyone has to name them, which isnt true, but Im curious. Yeah I agree, hes really awesome and it almost makes me want to get one... augh but my puffers are enough right now.

Hey that reminds me, I just noticed another bit of slang thats different between the UK and US... we say flashlight, you say torch! :)
