Crushed Coral

Hello all. I received a tank as a gift about 5 months ago which came with white rocks, a small filter, and light. I have since changed the filter to a much better one and am thinking about changing out the white rocks with crushed coral.

Will it be okay for my fish (GSP, tiger barbs, shadow fin shark, monos) to change out the substrate at this point?

Also, how much will it change the water in terms of pH? My current pH is around 7ish.

THe fish you have are not compatable in terms of water conditions. What size tank do you have since monos and the gsp get large? Not familiar with the shadow fin sharks.

Columbian sharks? You are mixing high-end BW & FW fish. You need 2 tanks.

I originally purchased the GSP and monos, but received the others as gifts since my roommate thought that my 30 gallon tank was too empty. I've had this combination of fish for quite some time now and keep the salinity at about 1.005, and they seem to be doing very well.

I do understand that the salinity must go higher over time, and am not sure how well the tiger barbs will do. Are you guys suggesting that I remove the tiger barbs?

The GSP will need to progress to higher salinity as it ages and will have to be in full marine at adulthood.

So if you intend on keeping the GSP, any fish that cannot handle full marine will have to go.

Furthermore, 30 gallons is enough for a single GSP and not much else.

Why is it that most people assume a fish tank needs to be crammed full of fish to be appealing? "All this fuss for a single fish?! "

I'd find homes for all your fish except the puffer. Since the mono can reach a foot, it will be too large for that tank.
