You can just get a HOB skimmer, you don't need a sump if you don't have the room. You will also need some powerheads for water movement. I started adding LR at 1.021/22

I done a lot of reading last night. So I I get a HOB skimmer the HOB filter can be removed right? So just lots of LR, some powerheads and a HOB skimmer should work for all my filtration needs?

I have kept my filter from the Brackish tank running with the same media in, untill I am happy that the tank is stable. When I am sure, I will slowly remove the filter media & replace with LR rubble.

I never used a sump, just LR, good flow v& a decent skimmer. All good to go >1.018.

Yeah I figure I'll move it all over slowly. Can't the die off from the LR cause problems with the parameters...or am I thinking too much into this? What is a good HOB skimmer to use on a 30g

Yep--you should be sure it is cured (put it in a bucket) before adding it to your tank.

How long does it need to be in a bucket? So getting it out of the tanks at the LFS it isn't cured?

Thanks PP, just saw this after I posted response on my my thread, I will keep all my questions there now . Thanks for the link. I cycled this tank with the LR in it, that's why I wasn't sure about another method. I have so much to learn about SW...it's get discouraging...can't turn back now though

Ahh cooking rocks; so much fun. Basically put your rocks in a covered bucket, keep a heater in there to keep the temp stable, with a power head or two, water change every week for 2 - 4 weeks and VOILA nicely cured, seeded cooked, stable and most times bad critter free live rock.

LOL this is what this method of curing live rock is effectionately called amongst most reef hobbyist in the Northeast
