Nitrifying bacteria

Post by weidjd »

How long can the bacteria live without an ammonia source? My tank finally tuned on Wednesday and I have not found any ceylons yet.

ya putting in food will help it stay alive, but to answer your question, I think Ive read something like 2 weeks or so before its all died off. But dont take my word for it, let the experts speak up

Definitely keep adding fish food. BUT only the amount you would feed to the initial round of fish going in. After that then you can start adding fish by the ones twos or threes for smaller ones.

As for how long they will last, about 2 weeks give or take seems accurate. I'm not sure as I have always done things the hard way.

Be sure to do a 90% WC, cleaning out all the uneaten food before adding any fish.
