Need a little help with water parameters

Post by drj1259 »

I switched over my 55 gal brakish tank to a FOWLR set up on monday. I still have my HOB filter system running untill all my base rock is seeded(45 lbs base about 10-15 lbs live). So anyways I have been adding C-Balance to the tank to keep the Cal. and kH up to help with the coraline growth and also do about 10% WC every other day to help out at the beginning. Now my question is or rather my questions are.... What is a good kH and cal. to aim for?? right now im at 200-400ppm kH and 350ppm Cal. Also today I tested my parameters before the WC and it showed .25 ppm ammonia all of the sudden. Havent ever had a problem since it cycled with ammonia but today it showed up somehow. You think that since i switch the substrate when i swicthed to full SW it did a mini cycle?? thought it was fine since I left the filter going but i dunno maybe i messed up the test somewhere

Not sure about the kH offhand but calcium should be between 380 and 420 ppm.
