Seems like a good skimmer from what I can tell. Think it will be enough for a 40g. tank?

Check the Overview on that page....says it is good for 40-120 gal

No way would I pay that much for a skimmer for a 40g tank. I paid no more then $50ea for my 2 used Backpacs. You're welcome to post at my new reef forum in the "wanted" section for a used skimmer. I'm a Mod there.

Ok I made a post. I also know of a store store sells used equipment including protein skimmers, so I will check there also.

I bought a used double BAK-PAK without the pumps for $50. So I added some pumps and wow how well they are built even though mine looks well used..lol Only thing I need to change out some of the o-rings on the collection cups. Still have it stored up because I no longer own a SW tank but figured that I would keep it because never know, one day might end up setting up another SW tank.

Never apologize for storing quality equipment. If something does the job well and holds up under use, that is the sort of stuff I want and stockpile spares of routinely. I hate to have to get something new at high price does not do as good a job as something I have had for years but don't have enough spares of. I hate that.

The few regrets that I have on equipment for the hobby tend to be things I did not buy enough of while they were still available.

LOL, I sometimes apologize for not being willing to give up my Prizm skimmer. Using it now in a pinch & it's actually working quite well!

Quite a lot of my equipment (and tanks, and fish) count as antiques. Some things I use routinely are much less user-friendly than more modern equipment, but it is stuff I have been using for decades (most of my canisters) and can literally work on in the dark or very close to that - during power outages before I had generators. Knowing what and how your toys work and what they can and cannot do is a big part of the battle and the learning required to keep fish well and easily.
