This is great but where does the bacteria from the bottle live?

Is it just in the water colum?

Do you think it would be better to buy some cheap rock to pour the ''one and only'' on?

Could a porc really live in there with no rock at all?

here is a start:
library/water-filtration/aquariummicrobespart1/

the bacteria live in and on everything they come in contact with. The more pours the surface the larger the colony. Thus, Live Rock and Live Sand. They are also predominant in the filter media.

There are "bare tanks" and the bacteria would be present in the sump and or filter.

Thx for replying so quickly

Would it be best to buy this stuff and to pour it straight into your external filter?

I think into the tank is best. The pump would circulate it and pull it through the filter anyway.

Would I have to take the carbon out of my filter?

Yeah, I would always remove carbon from filter when adding any supplement just to make sure it dont get removed by the carbon. At the end of the video, the guy showed how to add Dr Tim's bacterial supplement into the tank and stated other stuff that would come in handy for people with smaller tanks. Dr. Tim also has this product for freshwater and brackish water tanks too. I have never used it myself but been hearing alot of good stuff about it though so thats why I posted it plus I 1st saw it posted on MFK. Thought people in here would liked to see this.

Nitrification bacteria do not consider all surfaces equal. Their needs are:
1) a hard surface to which to attach (they cannot divide unless attached), but "hard" to them does not mean the same as hard to us.
2) good current, preferably prefiltered to remove particulates. The freedom from partiulates keeps the colony from being smothered under debris. Good current delivers clean water witn included oxygen (they are aerobic bacteria), unoxidized nitrogen ions for energy (their energy is from oxidation of nitrogen compounds, particularly ammonia or nitrite., plus all the other dissolved ions needed for nutrients. This means that they can grow on any surface in the tank, but over time will be found largely in filters so long as those are properly maintained. Filters tend to be dim to dark, so algae and other photosynthetic critters will nor grow over them and suffocate them. They are also protected fro larger grazers, both infusoia and larger inverts and fish when in a filter - although some inverts will be present.

So over time, the nitrification bugs tend to be in well-maintained filters, as those provide the optimum housing for them. If the filters are not well maintained or are not used for the tank, the nitrification may be anywhere in the tank with suitable surfaces, current, and oxygen sufficient for their needs, but are at greater risk than when housed in a filter. So-called filterless tanks do still harbor nitrification bacteria.

IMO, there really is no need for bottled bacteria for SW, unless you are running a FO without live rock. If adding live rock from a established tank, it will instantly cycle your tank. Unless it's not cured...
